Sophie and Joe were due to marry in Brighton in 2020 with a large-scale church and marquee wedding, reception and party with over a hundred guests.

Their plans were scuppered when Covid19 struck at the start of 2020. Naturally, they didn’t want to wait – they wanted to be married! - so plans were scaled down and moved to Sophie’s family home in Hampton, Richmond upon Thames with a church service followed by a gathering of their immediate families at home.

I attended for just over 4 hours covering 30 mins of final prep at Sophie’s home, the service and drinks before they sat down to lunch. Everyone tried very hard to socially distance and to respect the government guidance rules but what I noticed more than anything else is that these restrictions didn’t make a jot of difference to the love, emotion, excitement, connections and joy of their wedding. What a great story it was to capture.

I have covered many small intimate weddings over the years but never one where there were 23 in the church, 58 on Zoom in the front pew and another 30 or so friends and family patiently waiting outside to welcome Sophie and Joe as they stepped out into their new life together. It was special, it was emotional, it was raining!… but nobody cared – least of all them.

Here are some highlight of their wedding day story.

If you are looking for a wedding photographer to cover your small, intimate, relaxed wedding – whether this year under the current restrictions – or further ahead, I’d love to hear from you.
