I am drawn to people - observing with documentary work, and connecting with portraiture. Often the two come together in a commission. My love of observing and connecting with people brought me to photography.

I enjoy Art, film, literature and music, and whatever I have recently seen, read, or listened to, whirls around in my head in a big messy mass of images and thoughts some of which eventually find a place in my pictures.

After a degree in Art History, I worked in the business of words as an Editor at the BBC before taking up photography professionally following a diploma at the London College of Printing.

The mainstay of my photographic life has, and proudly continues to be, photographing ‘extraordinary, ordinary’ people at key events in life (weddings, christenings, parties), photographing families and children, and attempting to capture the essence of a person in a portrait. I’m also commissioned by businesses for their branding and events and Arts related performances and festivals.

I am proud of my work which is always a balance between a respect for, and commitment to, the brief and a desire to surpass my client’s expectations - and, at the same time, indulge in free-flowing creativity born of my own curiosity and desire to challenge my ways of seeing. In both I take great pleasure. I strive for structure and spontaneity, the real and the poetic in every commission that comes my way.

I hope to meet you soon for some pictures.

'The Chinese say, for a work of art, you need three things – the hands, the eye and the heart.’
(David Hockney)

’I want to capture the sublime in the every day.”
(Chris Killip)
